Powerball is not the only one offering a massive Powerball jackpot. Mega Millions is presenting one of its top 10 biggest powerball jackpots this week.
Powerball Jackpots : A Chance at $825 Million
For the Saturday Powerball drawing, the jackpot is expected to be the third-largest ever, reaching an estimated $825 million.
In Wednesday’s drawing, no one matched all six numbers (white balls 23, 35, 45, 66, 67, and red Powerball 20), which had a top prize of $750 million. Monday’s Powerball jackpot would have been the seventh-largest to date.
Two individuals matched all five white balls, one in Indiana and another in Florida, and each will receive a $1 million check.
Powerball also mentioned that 10 tickets won a $100,000 prize, while 26 earned a $50,000 prize from Monday’s drawing.
Since a player from Ohio won a $252 million jackpot on April 19, the Powerball jackpot has been steadily increasing. Two Powerball tickets have been sold with winners in 2023.
In Virginia, someone won a $162.6 million jackpot in the March 4 drawing. The largest prize of the year came when a player from Washington won a $754.6 million jackpot in the February 6 drawing.
Powerball reduced the chances of reaching all six numbers in 2015, and it is common for multi-state lotteries to have six to nine winners in a year. All the top 10 biggest Powerball jackpots have occurred since 2015. The largest Powerball jackpot in history was $2.04 billion, won on November 7, 2022.
Annuity or Lump Sum: The Choice is Yours
The $850 million jackpot figure is based on choosing the annual installment option. If the winner chooses the lump-sum amount, they will receive $441.9 million. Both figures are before taxes.
The odds of winning the jackpot are approximately 1 in 292 million.
Powerball also offers prizes ranging from $4 to $2 million. The odds of winning a smaller prize are about 1 in 25. During Wednesday’s drawing, 1.8 million people won a prize.
Powerball is played in 45 states and Washington, D.C.
Mega Millions: $560 Million at Stake
Another multi-state lottery, Mega Millions, will have its seventh-largest jackpot of $560 million on Friday.
